Adoption laws require the use of approved home studies for all domestic and international adoptions. The home study is relied upon by child placing agencies, attorneys, judges, as well as state and foreign governments. It is the first step in your adoption process and many people have their home study completed before they even choose an agency. The purpose of the home study is to determine if: 1) there is genuine desire to be a parent, 2) the emotional and financial resources to raise a child exist, and 3) there is a stable home environment. We understand there is no such thing as a perfect family.

The home study should be an interactive and educational experience not one that is painstaking and long. Remember, Adoption Support Services of Florida is “your adoption advocate”. The goal is to help you, not hinder you. Only two meetings with the social worker are usually needed and in many cases, they can both be done in the privacy and comfort of your home. The first interview can be scheduled within a week of the initial consultation and many of our home studies have been completed in less than 1 month.

Adoption Support Services of Florida, Inc. will assist you in obtaining all the documentation needed and because our focus is home studies, we keep up to date on changing requirements within the state of Florida, the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services and those of the child’s country of birth.
